The Shake Shack in Madison Square Park at the corner of Madison and 23rd Street. Freshly ground daily, these burgers rock! Even cold and left over from going home on the subway with me they still rock. The frozen custard is also great and comes in unusual daily flavors. The Hummus Place There are 3 in New York, but am partial to the one on the upper West side at 73rd and Amsterdam. The hummus is amazing and the falafel is almost perfection. I especially like the hot sauce and the pickles. The Bar at The Modern Danny Meyer restaurants never disappoint. The bartender, Liam, was fabulous and let us taste all 3 of the wines by the glass that we were debating between for my friend to drink. We settled on the Sicilian Syrah. The ocean trout tartare was succlent and satisfying, but it was the chicken liver appetizer that stole the show. Spend a few hours wandering around the MOMA and go sit at the bar in their very comfy bar stools and treat yourself to a snack or a nice lunch, you won't be disappointed. Per Se Perfect food and elegant service. Getting the reservation was painful and took a great deal of effort, however once booked all the worry is over. There is no wine pairing package for the tasting menus, however the wine list was exceptional as one would expect from what has been called the best restaurant in New York. All of the food pictures on this page are from my meal and for me the highlights were the selection of 7 different types of salt and the goat cheese made by a woman in Tennessee. Unfortunately, the perfect food did not excite me or give me the thrill I had expected. Sometimes perfect is also boring. Eleven Madison Park The tasting menu of eleven courses was amazing and the wine package was perfection. The suckling pig, formed into a cake and seared, was a revelation for me and the heirloom tomato that was seasoned and baked was one of the best things I have ever eaten. Proof that simplicity is exquisite. Also, the sea urchin cappucino was served in the most elegant sea urchin porcelain bowl. All in all, I would do it again all over again and it was worth every penny. |
